Dear Colleagues and Stakeholders,
After 15 years with the Foundation, four and a half as Executive Director, Patrick Troska will embark on a 12-week sabbatical beginning June 25, 2015. He will return to his position with the Foundation on Monday September 28, 2015.
“Over the last four plus years, Patrick has effectively worked with the staff and trustees to establish a different kind of foundation that more closely reflects the entrepreneurial spirit of our founders and my great-grandparents,” said Dean Phillips, a Foundation Trustee and Co-Chair. “Providing him this opportunity to take a step away from his day-to-day responsibilities, explore some personal interests and recharge his batteries will only enhance his work once he returns in September.”
Joel Luedtke, Senior Program Officer, will step in as Interim Executive Director during Patrick’s time away. Joel joined the Foundation in 2007, and during his tenure has spearheaded many innovative Foundation programs such as the Phillips Sectoral Employment Initiative, the Minneapolis St. Paul Workforce Innovation Network (MSP Win), and the establishment of a VISTA program that currently places 20 young leaders in nonprofits throughout the Minneapolis St. Paul region. He will assume all leadership and management responsibilities of the Foundation.
“Joel has built a solid reputation as an innovative philanthropic leader. We are confident that the Foundation will be in good hands during Patrick’s leave,” said Jeanne Phillips a Foundation Trustee and Co-Chair. “Joel has learned from Patrick, someone we have entrusted fully to lead our Foundation. This is a wonderful opportunity for Joel to explore some leadership interests of his own.”
“This is an incredible opportunity our Trustees have provided to me,” said Patrick. “I am humbled and look forward to some time to travel, rest and reflect on my work and my own leadership style.”
Tracy Lamparty continues to serve as the Foundation’s Grants and Operations Manager, and Salena Acox continues as the VISTA Program Manager. For the most part, the Foundation’s grantmaking work, community engagement and daily operations will continue uninterrupted over the three-month sabbatical.
